MEDITATION AND BREATHWORK

Meditation is a technique that aims to enhance mental clarity and emotional calmness by ​focusing the mind and increasing awareness. By concentrating on the breath, we can ​heighten our mindfulness, show more compassion towards ourselves and others, and ​connect with the present moment. This practice of focused concentration can help ​alleviate anxiety, stress, and depression. According to the meditation app Headspace, ​meditation is not about transforming into a different person, a new person, or a better ​person, but rather about cultivating awareness and gaining a healthy perspective.


Using Essential Oils for Meditation

When meditating, the sense of smell can play a significant role by allowing your mind to ​focus on the scent's sensation and any associated memories. There are various ways to ​incorporate essential oils into meditation, with one simple method being to use a ​diffuser. Diffusing essential oils in your space can create a soothing atmosphere as you ​relax. Alternatively, you can use a room spray or apply a diluted blend of essential oil to ​your temples or behind your ears before meditating.

Essential Oils and ADHD

Research has shown that there is an alternative natural remedy to medication for ​ADHD. Aromatherapy can be beneficial non-harmful alternative treatment to ADHD. ​The small molecules of essential oils can penetrate our body through inhalation and ​olfaction via the respiratory tract from where they are transported to the blood ​stream. Essential oils easily pass the blood-brain barrier without being broken down ​by the liver.



In the case of ADHD, brain wave patterns of the young patients show the ​dominance of Theta waves which means that the brain is in a kind of sleep or ​daydreaming state. With the use of certain essential oils, it has been observed that ​these waves can change into Beta waves, which are normally produced in state of ​wakeful alertness.

A study by Dr T. Friedmann measured the brainwaves of children with ADHD before ​and after the regular use of essential oils. Essential oils chosen for the Study were ​Lavender, Vetiver and Cedarwood. The group of children were split into three and ​each group were asked to inhale a certain essential oil three times a day for the ​period of 30 days. At the end of the 30 days the subjects had their Beta-Theta ​waves recorded. The results showed that Vetiver increased Beta waves by over ​30%, improved brain activity and reduced ADHD symptoms. Similar results were ​recorded with Cedarwood essential oil. Lavender was also noted for the increased ​improvements in brain wave patterns as well as for its relaxing and sedative effects ​on the subjects.

What is Menopause ?

Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman's menstrual ​cycles. It typically occurs in their late 40s to early 50s. Menopause happens when the ovaries ​stop producing eggs, causing a decrease in estrogen and progesterone hormones.


There are three main stages of menopause:


1. Perimenopause: This is the transitional period leading up to menopause when hormone ​levels begin to fluctuate, and menstrual cycles may become irregular. Symptoms like hot ​flashes, night sweats, and mood swings can occur during this stage.


2. Menopause: Menopause is officially diagnosed when a woman has gone without a ​menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. At this point, hormone levels have significantly ​decreased, leading to various symptoms such as vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances, and ​changes in libido.


3. Postmenopause: Postmenopause refers to the years following menopause. During this ​stage, menopausal symptoms may continue or diminish, and women are at an increased risk ​for certain health conditions like osteoporosis and heart disease due to the prolonged ​decrease in estrogen levels.

What feeling does the word ‘menopause’ invoke in you?


Is it one of dread, worry, frustration, a sense of fear, powerlessness and stress?


Menopause is often thought of as a negative phase in life where everything changes for the worst.


But it does not have to be that way! What if menopause was seen as a time of strength, health, happiness and feeling empowered?


How many “magic solutions” have you looked for? You see someone promoting a tablet to “cure all your symptoms and make you ​feel amazing”. You try and realise it doesn’t, another thing that has failed you.


What if I told you that making some simple changes to your nutrition, exercise and lifestyle can have the biggest positive impact? ​Yes there are things you cannot control but there are also things you can and these are some of them.


I myself am perimenopausal and have had my fair share of struggles, I understand the days where it is hard, the highs, lows and ​frustration. I went from being someone with high activity levels, who was always positive and happy. Who had competed in ​bodybuilding to someone who had no energy, felt low and struggled to shift that “menopause fat”. Fast forward and I am now ​predominantly feeling amazing, I have more energy and I have shifted “that fat”.


I did this through small changes to my nutrition, lifestyle and most importantly gave myself time.


I have worked with several women who are going through the different phases of menopause, who were previously struggling and ​are now feeling better than ever.


As your menopause wellness coach I do not want to dictate but to work with you. Communication is key to this. Letting me know how ​you feel, your struggles and worries.


It is important to realise change is not instant and improvements do not happen overnight.

From the women I have worked ​with and from personal experience it will take you longer than you think to achieve your body goals during this ​phase of your life. Remember to keep that hormonal health and to feel good we must not restrict massively as ​it can worsen your symptoms.


There is no calorie counting, there is no step count, this is designed to improve your lifestyle and symptoms ​with as little distribution as possible.
